I’ve officially been the editor of Perfumer & Flavorist+ for a little over six months now, and in those six months I have learned so much about this industry. Everyone I have met has been so welcoming and helped me learn all of the little nuances that go into fragrance formulation.

I truly don’t think I’ll ever stop being impressed when I learn about a new technology or innovation. Maybe it’s the chemist in me, but there’s something so satisfying about seeing an experiment come to fruition. So when I read about a new extraction process that maintains higher yield of a plant’s extract while maintaining its antioxidant compounds, I can’t help but smile. There are so many professionals in the F&F community working to make sure our products are high-quality and safe, and their creativity and drive are admirable.

This month I’ve had the joy of reading and editing all of our Fragrance Leaders & Newsmakers submissions, and I can’t help but feel so much hope and optimism for this industry. Every company that is featured in this issue has mentioned some form of hardship, whether it be geopolitical conflicts or price changes or supply chain shortages. But they all found a way to overcome these challenges so they could keep providing excellent service and new innovations. While our experts acknowledge that things are still uncertain in the industry, they are also optimistic about the next few years and excited about the next wave of innovation.

Next month will be our Flavor Leaders & Newsmakers, so stay tuned!
